Caught Off Guard

"Caught Off Guard" is a 2021 animated short film created in collaboration with a group of seven. I served as the lead in layout and character design. In this film, I modeled and surfaced several assets and animated the opening shot. Specifically, I modeled and surfaced the rope barrier seen throughout the museum floor, surfaced the batteries on the security desk, and the clipboard held by the robot in the opening shots. Additionally, I contributed to the concept art and story development.

Character Design

During the initial stages of designing the robot museum security guard for our short film, I envisioned a character that combined the endearing qualities of Wall-E—cute, adorable, and heroic. I wanted the robot to have an innate charm that would instantly resonate with the audience. Simultaneously, I considered exploring a different direction inspired by Paul Blart: Mall Cop, aiming for a more humorous and relatable security guard character.

After experimenting with both concepts, I ultimately decided to refine the initial idea. The final design focused on creating a cute, innocent robot dedicated to his job. The result is a lovable and earnest robot who, despite his occasional mishaps, is fully committed to performing his security duties to the best of his ability. This approach added depth and relatability to the character, making him a memorable part of the film.
